With mixed emotions we write to inform you that Maggie Walt Design, Edmonton’s home of high fashion, will be closing its doors this summer.
The 10 years we’ve spent as a fixture on Jasper Avenue with the Fashion Underground space, and all the events we’ve hosted – it’s been a special time. The fashion shows, concerts by local musicians, fundraisers, dance performances and Hidden Gems events showcasing local indie businesses have all made for a wonderful decade.
However, it is now time for change and we believe that operating without a fixed retail location while harnessing the powers of the Internet, will give us greater flexibility in bringing our unique designs to the world.
Issues such as new ownership of the Jasper Ave building and the constant struggle to encourage more Edmontonians to patronize local indie businesses influenced our decision as well. The yearning for change is driven also by a desire to be mobile and to bring our unique line of designs to different cities, at different times, yet still be available to everyone. The new maggiewalt.com web store will allow you to find us at anytime, from anywhere.
We do not know where this journey will take us but we’ll keep you posted. We may just “Popup” here and there. You’ll be the first to know!

July 20 Farewell Celebration & Fashion Show
Maggie’s fashion shows are our little bits of prairie glamour, always fun & extremely helpful to see how the designs move on real live bodies.
This final show is going to be a very special evening! In addition to a fashion show featuring Maggie’s latest designs to take you through the rest of summer, you’ll be treated to Booming Tree: a Japanese Taiko drumming duo who have taken a detour on their North American tour to perform for us as well as the Harley Symington Trio playing cool jazz. Singer/Songwriter Carrie Day will enchant us with a few of her folk/roots originals. Dancer Tracy Friesen, owner of Integration Pilates Studio, is dancing her latest choreography. And rounding out the night is CJSR DJ – Buster Friendly.
